I have researched this to death and am at a loss for how to fix this
one. My page file remains at min 2 max 1024 no matter what I try to
set it to with custom. Yes I hit the set button. I can only change
the page file to "no page file" but when I reboot and try to customize
it again returns to 2 1024. The registry reports correctly what I set
in customization but the page file remains 2 1024. I am not running
NAV or any Symantic products. I have 2GB ram and hundreds of GIGs
free on the hard disk. I am having problems printing photo's do to
lack of virtual memory. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link but that does not address my problem of windows
not allowing me to change the setting. The only choices I have are no
page file or min 2 max 1024. If I try to change it with the custom
setting (and hit set) when I reboot it goes right back to 2 1024.

Not knowing whether it matters or not, does the procedure

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837869

"Microsoft Windows XP", step 7, set forth a requirement of three "OKs"
(closing menues only ?) after the "set" and before restart. I guess this
applies for the custom option as well, and something you presumably have done.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have OK'd out of the menues and it still
will not change (although it does change in the registry). After
reboot it reports "total page file for all drives 1024" even though
the registry reports what I set it to which is 3070 3070.

Is your computer infested with any Norton/Symantec Products? Some
versions of that crapware have been known to interfere with pagefile
settings.

Good luck

Any other "system security" or "internet security" type apps
installed? I am thinking of something that monitors changes to the
registry and changes them back if they look like something a
virus/spyware/trojan might do.

Yes I have CA Antivirus installed and I used to have Panda but have
uninstalled it. Do you think the CA Antivirus might be the cause?

(Pagefile) life isn’t easy! Assuming you have tried to set the pagefile size
to a smaller one than the “system setting†2 – 1024, e.g. 2 – 512 or
something like that, just to watch for any change in the behaviour, I as well
presume you have tried various settings in “Safemodeâ€.

Just in case you haven’t already read them, note some articles and “stuffâ€
regarding virtual memory:

By the late MVP, Alex Nichol, on Jim Eshelman's web site, with interesting
statements regarding size of pagefile etc:

One way to check is to shut off CA Antivirus or boot into Safe Mode so
the antivirus doesn't load and then try making changes.

Good luck

What's your status on this? I have the exact same situation. The page file
change is only applied when in safe-mode.
