Hiyas all
I can log onto the AD domain and it will pick up my scripts and pick up that
I changed my password from users and computers but if I try to change the
password through Ctrl Alt Delete, I get:

"The system cannot change your password now because the domain is unavailable"

I can also get to the AD Domain servers through \\servername and I can also
ping them

It doesnt make sense. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jerry,

Need to check the SRV records in DNS, particularly the _kerbpass (or
something like that). Those service records are for the Kerberos Password
Change Server. Point your DC to a DNS server on the network and enable
dynamic updates. Restart the NETLOGON service on the DC. Point your client to
the same DNS server and reboot (you can clear the resolver cache by running
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS). See if you are able to change your password then.

Also, if the "User cannot change password" option is selected on the user
account you will not be able to change the password. Password must also meet
the domain complexity / length requrements as in the password policy (liked
at the domain level).

What error are you getting ?

Go to the network identification tab, click properties...more and make sure that the "change primary dns suffix when domain
membership changes" box is checked. For XP the checkbox is under the computer name tab...change...more.

If it is not this, check an "ipconfig /all" and make sure that the primary suffix matches your domain.

Sorry for the dumb post but I went ahead and made the new AD DNS the Primarly
DNS server instead of my old NT4.0 DNS and it works fine :)

Thanks for your help.
