Can't change my form in Contacts

I am trying to use a new custom form in Contacts and I
can't seem to switch over all my contacts to the new
form. I upgraded to Outlook 2002 last year. In my
previous version I had made a form we'll call here Custom
Form. When I upgrade, I brought this form over. I
cannot remember how I did it. I can't remember if it
just came over with my contacts or what. I'm not an
expert in Outlool at all. But it came over and I was
happy. This Custom Form had about 80 user defined fields.

The following info I'm putting in here just in case it
helps solve the problem. When using the field chooser
for a view, I noticed that my user defined fields were no
longer listed on that drop down list. There was a new
one called Custom. Which I'm assuming was automitically
named because of the name on my Custom Form. None of the
user defined fields in this drop down list can be
deleted. Why I don't know.

I just made a new custom form which we can all Custom2.
I made it the default form for my contacts folder. None
of my contacts changed forms. I then tried to make a new
contacts folder with the default form set to Custom2. I
then attempted to copy my contacts into there. No
change. But when I try to add a new contact the new
contact folder, I do get the Custom2 form.

The question is, how can I get my current contacts to
switch forms? They seem locked on the old form.

You need to change the MessageClass on the existing items to point to your new form's class. See http://www.slipstick.com/dev/newdefaultform.htm#convert for several tools and scripts to accomplish this easily. YOu may first want to add the MessageClass field to a view so you can learn what form your old contacts are trying to use.
