To the point,

This is how I've always installed video drivers and I have not had an issue
until now.

I uninstall my old drivers.

Then booted into safe mode and used Driver sweeper to clean up the remaining
parts of the old drivers.

I then do a standard reboot and install the new drivers.

Then another reboot.

*This is the issue*

At this point my desk top is running at 800x600 with 16 bit color.
When I try to change it to 1680x1050, 32 bit color the screen flashes and
I'm asked if I want to keep this new setting (The trouble is its still at
800x600 16 bit color) It does not matter if I click yes keep it, or no, it
stays at 800x600.

Then when I uninstall these new drivers (182.50) back to my old ones, the
same thing happens and I cant get past 800x600 res.

The only way I was able to get my old resolution back is to do a Sytem
Restore to before ever trying to install the 182.50 drivers.

I have tried installing the beta 185.66 as well after a system restore and
the same issue arises.

I did notice some strange things,

1. When I boot into Safe Mode I have full 1680x1050 resolution. I thought it
should be running on low res in safe mode, but I'm not sure.

2. When I am in between drivers, after I uninstalled the old ones and
rebooted into safe mode and ran driver sweeper. I then do a normal reboot to
install the new drivers and it boots into 1680x1050. This is odd because at
this point there should not be any drivers except the system driver.

I would very much appreciate some advice or help here.
I am not new to installing drivers. Ive been gaming since 1993.
But this one has me puzzled.
Could I have a virus?
All scans come up clean except for the usual suspects...adware etc.

So at this time I am totally unable to upgrade video drivers.

Thanks.

Mitch, if you reverted back to the previous drivers and it worked fine
then I guess this BETA driver has a few bugs.

Barry,

Thanks for the reply.
I am unable to revert back to my old drivers.
The only way I am unable to correct this issue is to do a complete system
restore.

Rich,
That version is a WHQL certified driver, and not a beta. I installed it on
mine and it works just fine.

Mitch,
Extract the driver file to a folder. Open up your display properties,
adapter, driver, and click on update driver. Use the browse option and
select the folder you extracted the file to. Install it that way and reboot.
If it works, open explorer and go to that folder and and run the PhysX setup
to get the new version of it installed.

I did not revert back. I was unable to do that. please see my first post.
I had to do a system restore to get back to the origanal set up.

You shouldn't have to revert back to the old driver to re-install the new
one, but if you want, you can download the old driver (if you don't already
have it), extract it to a folder, and install it the same way. Then you can
either leave it at 182.08, or try updating again to 182.50. As I said in my
reply, it works fine on my PC, and I installed it the same way I described
it to you.

Thanks you for your interest and remarks.
