I remover a virus from my computer and now I can't change the
background on my desktop I can change the color of the background but I
can't make it a picture from the list or a picture from my picture;
I used task manager and killed explorer.exe and I can see the pic in the
background.

I looked at this article but no help
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=921049#appliesto

when I tried this, I found that I did not have the NoDispAppearancePage or
any of the other options.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
3. In the right-pane, right-click the NoDispAppearancePage value if the
value exists, and then click Delete.
4. Repeat step 3 for the following registry values if these values exist in
the registry:
• NoDispCPL
• NoDispBackgroundPage
• NoDispScrSavPage
• NoDispSettingsPage

please help!

Click Start
Click Run
Type: regedit
..Navigate to the following registry entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If there delete . If not try suggestion below.

"Wallpaper"=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html (yours might be slightly different)

Close the Registry editor

Right click on the desktop, select "properties". Go to the "desktop" tab
(this is where the background should be selected, not in appearance. Maybe
that was the problem...) and click the "Customize Destop..." button. Select
the "web" tab and make sure no webpages are being displayed, as these will
cover the destop background.
