To all,
I am setting up a new Dell computer for my mother and I have ran into the
following problem. It won't let me change the from teh dfault home page to
the MSN page she likes. I have done the internet options - select default(
when on msn)-apply and change but the change won't take. It appears that
there there is a registry setting that is overriding this change but I don't
know haow to correct this. I have contacted dell but it appears that was
dead end ( that is another issue).
Any and all help will be appreciated. ( she has norton antivirus . zone
alaram for a firewall and spybot and adware for spy ware removal. These
installs are less than 1 day old and the computer has been set up for ~ 1
day).

Most recent anti-virus and anti-spyware programs protect the Home Page from
change. Open any such programs and turn off that protection. After making
the change turn the protection back on. Several malware programs try to
change the Home Page.

Options in several third-party applications disallow such changes. These
include Ad-aware Pro's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster, Norton
AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm.

I had the same problem on my PC and laptop and after trying things suggested
by several helpers over weeks, I removed Zone Alarm and am using Microsoft
Firewall and my IE 6 Home Page changes just fine. Strange that when I went
into msconfig and turned off Zone Alarm from Start menu, that didn't work, I
had to remove it. Now that I have fixed my PC I have to go see if this fix
will also work on my laptop.
Phew, what a mess it was.

Thanks so much!

Judith

Be aware that Windows firewall does not monitor or control "outbound
connections," so if something nasty gets into your machine, you won't know
that it's "getting out."
Go to ZA and download a slightly older version of ZA, or better still buy a
good one such as CA etrust, or even ZA. I suspect that if you buy ZA,
you'll get the check box for locking and unlocking IE6's home page !

regards, Richard
