(WinXP/sp2 & IE6) For some reason the IE Home Page cannot be changed.
However, it is not pulling-up a spyware page, and the obligatory spyware
scans (WinDefender, SB, AA, & HijackThis) have came up clean with nothing too
suspicious showing up - although in HT the Start Page entries cannnot be
deleted (see below). But for some reason the Home Page reverts back to the
previous/original site or Home Page after changing and closing IE. When
booting into Safe Mode the Home Page can be successfully/permanently changed
every time, but in normal boot mode all users/profiles have the same problem
of it not 'keeping' the change. After running all of the steps in the MS Tech
KB 320159 it appears that the three Start Page registry settings cannot be
changed from RegEdit in normal boot mode as an error appears when trying to
do so. The Default_Page_URL settings can be changed in normal boot mode from
RegEdit, but there are three of them in the registry and this is obviously
not a good long term solution at changing the Home Page for a novice user.
Would uninstalling IE from Add & Remove Programs/Windows components and
reinstalling it fix this problem and/or the resistry settings ? Any other
help or suggestions in fixing this perplexing problem would be greatly
appreciated ...
