My daughter's computer is running Windows XP Home SP2 w/ all current
updates. Her system appears to be "clean" with no viruses or spyware,
according to all of my utilities. She is the only user of her system and the
computer therefore has only one account (hers) set up as an administrator.
I'm unable to add a log-on password to her account. When the Change Your
Password dialog appears, the fields are there to add or change a password,
but they are inaccessible; if I click on them, nothing happens (that is, no
cursor appears in any field and I can't type anything). The same is true if
I try to create a new account, or to change anything about my daugher's
account. If I reboot into Safe Mode and log in under either her account or
as Administrator, the same thing happens! It's maddening....
Any suggestions? I hope someone can help me out. I'm at my wits' end, having
scoured the Internet (during any free time I've had over the past two days)
to no avail. What could be blocking access to the user accounts?
