recently installed a new graphics card but it wont recognise its there.
However in the bios menu it wont allow me to highlight the option to turn off
the internal video card. Also most options in bios are not highlighted

Hi, Hoodster.

It MIGHT help us help you if you tell us the makes and models of your
computer (or motherboard, if you built it yourself) and your graphics card.

As you know, there are many variations between BIOSes and the way their
settings are changed in CMOS. A "generic" answer probably wouldn't do you
any good.

And how is this a Windows XP issue? Windows has nothing whatsoever to do
with your BIOS. If you're having problems with your system at the BIOS level
you need to contact the system or board manufacturer. You may need to flash
the BIOS but I really don't recommend that you do this by yourself - I
suggest you take it to a reputable repair shop and have them do it.

Try clearing the CMOS,unplug the computer, remove the battery, then move
the CMOS pin from 1-2 to 2-3 position for 1 minute or so,then move back
to 1-2 position,replace the battery.On start-up you'll need to asdjust
settings
in the BIOS,basics,time,date etc.,then go to exit page,select,"Load set-up
defaults" or "load optimal defaults",then return to BIOS and change add ons,
and video adapter, once thru, save and exit BIOS.In some cases the on board
video can be left on,once in xp however, disable it,in device mgr.,shut off
comp-
uter,install card,boot up,in xp,disable it again,install software,restart
computer.
