My son installed a 3rd party theme on Vista 32 and then uninstalled it.
Instead of folder icons, all icons now look like files, hard to now tell the
difference between a folder or a file in a directory. Is there a way to get
them back to the original folders?

You did not mention which third party program your son installed, that said,
if it is like some others it inserted the following key into your registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Icons

That key does not exist in the normal Vista registry

Start > run
regedit
<enter>

navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Icons

If it is there, right click on it, choose EXPORT and give it a temp name and
save it your desktop

Now right click on the key and delete it

Reboot

Your icons should return to normal

IF THE KEY I IDENTIFIED IS NOT THERE (SHELL ICONS), DO NOT DO
ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Gerry, that worked perfectly. It was an XBox theme.
