cant capture

am new to the land of video editing! have tried to use MM2 (downloaded from web) and altho my pc says it has found new hardware (correctly gives jvc gr-1800e as camera name) when I try to use wizard ( i have no camera software) to set up it says "the file avc.sys on Windows XP Home edition cd rom is needed." I never had any cd rom as xp was pre installed -have tried to copy file from another pc via a cd-rom to download in a Ddirectory on my pc but it gets rejected.
how can I get mm2 to work? anyone able to guide me?
 
According to info via Google, that SYS file is used as part of the FireWire
driver. I assume you have a FireWire card on your PC - did it come with any
software?

I found the DLL at www.windll.com but they appear to want money for it. You
might talk to your vendor and tell them that they left off an important
file...
