I am very new, as in today. I have a Sony Digital 8
camcorder. It came bundled with MGI VideoWave III SE. I
also have Windows Movie Maker. I am using a Dell
computer, running Windows XP. There is a USB cable that
came with the Sony that I use to connect.

I press play on the Sony, with it in VCR mode, and see
playback on the Sony display screen.

On my computer screen, with VideoWave open, I do not get
any video, and the only option to click on is "Audio." I
did install USB drivers off the cd also.

I also have tried using Windows Movie Maker which came
with XP, but no luck.

HELP!

I am using a digital 8 camera as well, and I feel your
pain. I have a DCR-TRV 730 and I had the same problems.
With USB, the only thing that can be transfered (at least
for my camcorder) are files off of the memory stick -
pictures and movie files. To get video I had to buy an
IEEE 1394 card bus and a 6 pin to 4 pin IEEE cable.
Using that, I'm able to capture video using Windows Movie
Maker. Maybe your computer already has an IEEE port but
mine didn't. I was able to get the card and the cable
including shipping from ebay for just under $30.
I still don't have everything working perfect yet. When
I play back the captured video, everything is a little
too fast and the quality is less than perfect.

Good luck.
