I'm trying to save from hard drive to CD- get a msg that
its' a read only file. Have tried changing file name,
nothing works. Using CD-RW cds,so that's ok. How did it
get to the read only status in the first place?

It started out on my CD because I had to do a system
recovery, then I saved it to my hard drive, changed
things, now want to save it to a CD again.

When you write to a CD, the file always becomes READ ONLY.

One way around this is to format the CD with Direct Cd or
similar software, then you can move files on and off the
CD as if it were a floppy.

To change a file from read only, Right click on it and go
to properties. You should be able to uncheck the Read
only Property. You will have to do this AFTER it has been
moved back onto your hard drive.

Fell free to e-mail me if I am not covering what you
actually need.

I would not recommend saving PPT files directly to CD, even if Direct CD
is being used. You're just asking for corrupt PPT files. Trust me on
this.

Just use your CD burning software to burn the file to CD. And yes,
writing to CD will cause the file to become read only. Not sure why it's
saying the file is read only since you changed things and resaved it on
your harddrive, but you can try right-clicking the file in Windows
Explorer, choosing properties, and seeing if "read only" is checked.

I have looked in Windows and read only isn't checked but I
still can't save it to my CD drive. Cd it be because I
opened it from a CD, made changes and then tried to resave
to both hard drive and CD?

Deborah,

BINGO!
opened it from a CD, made changes and then tried to resave
to both hard drive and CD?

You cannot (normally anyway)...just save a file to a CD using powerpoint.
You need to save it to your hard drive...then use the software that came
with the CD-writer to write your CD.

You are correct in that you can re-use a CD-RW. Where as a CD-R is a use
once medium, as you cannot change what's already written to it.
