Can't burn CDs larger than 595MB

When going to write files that are staged to be written,
if I have more than 595MB and less than 700MB (what my
disc is rated for) I get an error message in the writing
wizard saying:

This CD does not have enought free space for all your
files. There is 595 MB free space on the disc, and 644 MB
to be written. To continue blah blah blah...

Is there a way to fix this? I've tried several different
discs and it happens with all of them.

IIRC there is a place to specify the disc max either in the burning software
or in the properties for your device.

Please respond in the same thread on this newsgroup. Make sure you
include details of your application and Windows versions, and whether
or not you have included any service pack updates.

I'm using XP Pro, latest service pack.
I'm using the built in stuff with XP to burn and can't
find anywhere where I can set a max size.

Ryan,

The file structure on the CD requires a certain amount of
overhead, i.e. tables and pointers and such. Even though
CD's are rated to store 700MB, about 100 MB of that space
is allocated for this overhead. That's why you can't
store more than about 595 MB of data on a CD.
