Hi,

I am having such difficulty here. It's with my fathers PC. We can get
connected onto the broadband internet, but when we try to use internet
explorer to view webpages, it says that the page cannot be displayed. On
every single URL address that i have tried it says this. Now, i have tried
to use the pinging system. If i ping an address like www.google.com, it says
that the host was not found. But when i try IP, it replies. Can anyone help.
I mean, does it help if we re-install Win Xp again? Also, i have checked my
system information on his computer in the internet settings, and I saw that
the iecont.dll and iecontlc.dll are files that are missing. But then, the
same says on my computer and it works fine. Just giving as much info as i
can here. Thanks.

Thank you for reading this and trying to help

Jenna.

Most broadband service providers require you put in your 'Computer
Name' in a box for the modem setup. Have you done this? Do you have to
use a proxy server? Check your internet settings. If you don't have to
use a proxy server, make sure that box is NOT checked. Go to Internet
Options->Connections->LAN Settings If the last box about proxy settings
is checked, uncheck it and check the top box 'Detect Connections
automatically'. Give that a try. HTH.

I have tried this. It's not the internet settings. I even called up the ISP
and we created a new connection, we even put in their DNS servers and tried
but nothing. Could it be anything to do with Spyware or anything of the
sort. Could it be because of a backdoor trojan. I mean, i'm trying
everything here!! It's driving me bananas. Thanks for those helping.

You may have installed 'Trojan.QHosts', it will cause what you are seeing
happen on your PC.
