=====================================
Please be more specific.
What brand name and model of computer is this?
What kind of connection to the Internet?
Dial Up?
Cable modem?
DSL?
Click on Start > Run - type in ncpa.cpl
Press Enter or click OK
In Network Connections,
right click on your Internet Connection
click on Properties
click on the Advanced tab
check to enable the XP Internet Connection Firewall
click OK
What is it exactly that you see in Internet Explorer?
"Page Cannot Be Displayed"?
"Cannot Find Server"?
"Action Cancelled"?
If this is a Dial Up Connection, do you actually see
the two little computers down by the clock showing
that you are connected?
Click on Start > Run - type in devmgmt.msc
Press Enter or click OK
Does anything in Device Manager have yellow
question marks or yellow circles with exclamation
marks or red X's on them?
If so what?
What exactly is listed under Modems?
What exactly is listed under Network Adapters?
Click on Start > Run - type in winmsd
Press Enter or click OK
On the left side of System Information,
Expand Components > Network and click on Protocol
On the right hand side you will see different sections
and the top of each section will start with the word "Name"
Does the value for "Name" start with MSAFD or RSVP
in each section?
If the "Name" value starts with something else,
what exactly is that something else?
Connect to the Internet
Click on Start > Run - type in cmd
Press Enter or click OK
In the command prompt window,
type in these commands and press Enter after each command:
cd \
ipconfig /all
(What IP Address does your Internet Adapter get?)
ping 216.239.59.99
(What happens? Do you get 4 replies or request timed out?)
ping www.google.com
(What happens? Do you get 4 replies or request timed out?)
exit
That last command should have closed the command prompt window.
Please post back with the results.
