Can't Browse Workgroup Computers

I've been having a bear of a time trying to get my
computer to see workgroup computers. The really odd thing
is that it can't even see itself. I went though the
wizard and accepted the defaults. I've disabled my
firewall (Norton). I've made certain that the Computer
Browser service is running (restarted). I've disabled my
1394 port. I killed the bridge that the wizard set up.
I've forced NETBios to run over TCP/IP. I've removed my
wireless LAN card. I'm now hardwired into my Netgear
WGR614 router that I installed today, but even when I had
the cable modem tied directly to the NIC I couldn't
browse workgroup computers.

I've got 3 other machines that can all see each other and
themselves, but not this one. This machine, obviously,
can't see anything.

IPConfig looks like this:
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.4
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . :

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

I'm at my wits end - any help would be appreciated.

I have the same issue. Cannot see other computer in my
workgroup. Did you ever get a resolution?

so bad, my computer has the same issue.
I have 3 pcs,
A: XP home, wired to netgear MR814
B: XP professional, wired
C: XP professional, wireless
A&C can see each other, they can see B. but B can't see A&C. Very rarely, it saw them and I can't control.
I enable netBios too, nothing help.
hope someone can help us.

I have the same setup as you and I have the same problem. Here's what I did
to work around it.

Open My Network Places.

Click View Workgroup Computers

Right click the networked computer and create a shortcut on the desktop. If
you are on Computer 1 Right click Computer 2. If you are on Computer 2,
Right click Computer 1.

Every shared folder will be accessible by using that new shortcut even if
they don't show up in My Network Places. I don't understand why, and I
finally gave up after spending a couple of hours trying to figure it out.

I then used TweakUI for XP to remove the "regular" My Network Places icon
from the Desktop. Then I changed the icon of the My Network Places folder
to the same one as the My Network Places icon/shortcut that I removed from
the Desktop.

Here's a composite screen shot of what I did:

XP TweakUI can be downloaded here:

I've managed to get all of the machines connected to the
interent and I've removed the firewall software and made
certain I disabled the XP firewall. Now - none of the
machines can see each other but I'm no longer getting an
error message when trying to view workgroup members. I'll
post more if I manage to figure it out.
