Hello, I have Windows XP Pro sp2 (integrated). I usually prefer firefox
for browsing but recently I have realized that I cannot browse any web
page including local web server if I use Internet Explorer. When I type
any url in address bar, and press enter, Internet Explorer just awaits
for minutes and minutes. Windows flag in the right upper wawes but
nothing happens. I see only about:blank page. I have checked all
connection settings, proxy, firewall etc., restored Winproxy,
uninstall/reinstall Ethernet adapter. But it didnt work. And also I
have scanned my computer with Windows Defender, Spybot and Adaware.
They found nothing suspicous. And I have upgraded internet explorer 7.
But the problem has continued. And last I uninstalled ie7, then
reinstalled internet explorer 6 using ie6.inf file. But nothing
changed. I can browse any browser program like Firefox, Opera, I can
use MSN messenger, Outlook and Outlook Express or any other internet
enabled program. But I cannot browse any web page with internet
explorer. I get no error code or warning message in event viewer. How
can I resolve this problem except reinstalling operating system? Any
idea?

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/26.html

5. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

6. See Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 may display a blank Web page
after you select Auto-Select encoding
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870863

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Hi again. I have applied all suggestions as you stated but problem not
resolved.

1. Browser.reg and dll files has been successfully registered.
2. URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol is the same as above link.
3. sfc /scannow and expand all successfully completed. Oleaut32.dll
file seems ok.
4. My IE version is SP2 not SP1 and I checked encoding and http 1.0.
Nothing changed.
5. And also I have installed latest windows update fix, especially
related to Internet Explorer.
6. At last I have rebooted after each setting was applied. So, I still
see nothing but the same blank page. Windows flag in right upper
continues to wave and Internet explorer window seems busy when I get
cursor on it but if I dont close it, probably it will stay this way
forever.

Hello again. I have just noticed something. I am able to browse https
pages without problem but still not open http page. Is there anything
that i missed?
