Please help me. I can't get anything to load with IE 6.0.
Everything says " the page can not be displayed"
I have been using IE for 10 months with no problem. For
some reason it just stopped working. I wonder if I can
uninstall and then reinstall to fix. I am not sure how to
completely uninstall it though. I have tried the suggestion
to "detect network settings" as it says on the page "the
page can not be displayed" but I get nowhere.
I am not sure how the proxy settings should be set, and I
have not fooled with any settings what so ever. I have a
feeling that some spyware has invaded my settings. I can
not get any help from microsoft after it took me an hour to
just get here.
I went to the control panal tp unistall and a window popped
up and said "microsoft can fix most internet explorer
problems" I ran it and it did not fix anything. Thank God I
still have netscape, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get on
the net at all.
One more note, I noticed that if I don't have a "WWW" in
front of the address I can get to those pages, example,
http://home.bellsouth.net/ works fine but if I put
www.bellsouth.net it won't work.
please help me.

With IE open, go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Scroll down to Search. Check
"Just go to the most likely site." Click OK.

http://home.bellsouth.net/ works fine but if I put

Your DNS may be deficient and not caching aliases.
FWIW here are the results from my nslookup for those two names.

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: home.bellsouth.net
Address: 216.77.188.41

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: filter.bellsouth.net
Address: 216.77.188.40
Aliases: www.bellsouth.net

See if you can use the real name of the server instead.

In fact when I do that I get an HTTP redirect to this page:

A related test would be to try a ping -n 1 in a command window
just before trying to open the page with IE while using the alias.
The idea would be that if the DNS server cached the result for
long enough IE might be able to use it and not have the error
symptom.

ping www.bellsouth.net -n 1

Good luck
