Hi all,

I have a head scratching question/situation.

ws1 logged in as shawn, is master browser
ws2 logged in as philip
ws3 logged in as kim
lt1 loggend in as tim

ws1 has shawn, philip, kim and tim accounts, has
quest account on.
network can be seen by ws1,ws2 and lt1 but not ws3.
directory shares on ws3 can map to ws1.
when I try to browse local net I get the "you don't have
network access" privilages. why can't ws3 see the
rest of the network and the other computers? firewalls
are not an issue. all computers can browse the Internet.

any suggestions?

thanks,
charles......

Charles,

You can diagnose your problem by looking at logs from "browstat status",
"ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each
computer. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

But what is the meaning of "firewalls are not an issue. all computers can
browse the Internet."? Does the first conclude from the second? If you don't
know what the problem is, how do you know what it isn't?

Look at the NetBT setting, and all personal firewalls together.

And look at restrictanonymous.

Thanks for the feedback.

ws2 and ws3 and lt1 all have zone alarm suite on them and they are all
configured the same (local net addresses only trusted). ws3 is the only
one that can't browse the local lan even though it can map directory
shares. I will look through the above and see if any of them help. If
so I'll let you know how it turns out.

later......

ws1 has the regular MS firewall so it shouldn't be blocking just one
computer and not the others. All ip's hard coded, no dhcp.

Browstat showed an error = 53 from the computer that couldn't get a list
of the other computers on the network. Since we are adding a couple
more machines and moving others around I will let you know what happens
for the final configuration. The computer that was supposed to be the
master browser wasn't, which contributed to the problem.

thanks.....

Any time that you have different computers recognising different computers as
the master browser, you'll have a potential problem. That's the biggest problem
with the "NT browser" based network inventory.
