Is this a hardware problem or a software problem ?
I installed a small application (WS_FTP 5-something) which asked to
reboot my system. When it came up it gives me the Micosoft splash
screen and then flashes what looks like a BSOD bugcheck and reboots
again.
Last Good Configuration and the other boot options do the same thing.
Recovery console hangs with a underscore cursor in the upper left
corner of the screen.
I've read that booting from an XP distro can be used to atttempt to
repair a screwed up configuration. This is a Compaq that came with
OEM CDs that can only reimage. PITA. One of the CDs does have a /i386
file system. Is there a way to burn a bootable CD that will ask me if
I want to repair ?
There is some _very_ small chance that this version of WS_FTP is
hostile to XP and trashed the registry. I've used it on w2k systems
but never before on XP.
Any suggestions ?
