Hi I Just Received My New Gigabyte Motherboard K7 Triton GA-7VT600 I
Built The Computer My Own...Everything looks to be connected fine but
when I press the Power button nothing happens fan doesn't start, same
for the hard drive the only thing i can see is an OPEN LIGHT on the
MOTHERBOARD

Please don't tell me something burned

first rule!!!!!!!!

PSU- CPU -VIDEO- MEMORY then power up
if you boot to CMOS check to make sure your board is set to auto detect IDE devices
shut down .... Hard drive time... then go from there.
all fans are hooked up?

Dude, recheck the case switch connectors. Orient the power switch
connector right, n stuff.

Whatever you do, don't panic. Just recheck everything, real slow and
careful.

with EVERYTHING disconnected, the motherboard should power up - ie, remove
CPU, video and memory, and all drives. (leaving motherboard and PSU
connected only)
on the asus boards atleast, on POST, there will be beep error codes via the
case speaker (or built in speaker) to tell you whats missing - cpu would be
1 long beep for example, missing DRAM would be continous short beeps etc.
the manaul should tell you more on this.

if the board still doesnt power up, then it's either PSU or mobo is dead -
can you test PSU on another PC?

does the power switch work ok? easiest way is to short the power terminals
on the mobo (where the power switch connector would go) with a screwdriver
breifly. if it powers up then a broken wire or faulty power switch is
present.

ps, there a post in this tread that says to check power button connector -
it doesnt matter. the only polarity specific components are the power LED
and HDD LED and message LED if aplicable. the others (reset, power on/off
buttons) just connect the motherbaord connectors together.
