can't boot from boot disks

My Dell Latitude CPx recently was infected with a virus. It stopped booting
Windows, so I tried to create boot disks from my other computer, a IBM
Netvista desktop. The disks were created okay from the IBM, but the disks
aren't recognized on the Dell. I put them back in the IBM and they are
formatted to Fat, while the Dell is NTFS...any reason why this wouldn't
work? I can create the setup disks from other people's computers, but my
IBM's won't work in the Dell!!!!!!

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance!

For the floppy to successfully boot Windows NT/2000 the disk must contain
the "NT" boot sector. Format a diskette (on an NT machine, not a DOS/Win9x,
so the NT boot sector gets written to the floppy), then copy ntldr,
ntdetect.com, and boot.ini to it; and possibly ntbootdd.sys. Edit the
boot.ini to give it a correct ARC path for the machine you wish to boot.

The problem is that my IBM disks won't work on my Dell. The IBM is running
WindowsXP and the Dell has Windows2000. I'm creating disks on the IBM, but
the Dell does not recognize them as valid media. Who do I contact? Why is
this happening?

You didn't mention the error message you receive but I'm guessing one or the
other floppy drives is bad. (head offset) Symptoms are floppy works in the
drive it was last written from but not in another drive.

The error message I receive is that it is not valid media. However, when I
use disks formatted from other machines, the drive works and recognizes the
media. There is an inconsistency between the IBM Windows and the Dell
Windows (one is XP and the other 200, but I don't think this should be a
problem).

Sorry to belabor this, but I'm stumped and not even sure where to go for
help on this.

Thanks so much for your prompt replies.

Can you elaborate on "It stopped booting Windows"

*** STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf401F84C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is
properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.

I think I have a virus.

Thanks!
Kristen
