Can't boot after I swap Intellitype USB for PS2 Keyboard

I have one of new Microsoft USB Intellitype keyboard that has about 50 extra
buttons on it and a scroll wheel. At first I thought it would be cool, but
now it is an irritant.

I tried to ditch it and put back my old standard MS PS2 104 key keyboard but
now Win2k (SP3) will not boot up all the way. It hangs at the Starting
Windows 2000 screen with the progress bar at about 2/3 the way accross. If
I keep both the USB and the PS2 keyboard plugged in the PC will start fine,
but if I disconnet the PS2 I get the hangup.

I have tried to remove the keyboard and the HID devices in Device Manager
and reboot as well as disable the HID services and still no luck.

How do I get rid of this piece of junk????????

This looks like another instance of W2K's choking on new hardware. You may
have to do the whole New Hardware thing; the following post courtesy Bruce
Chambers, while not specific to keyboard problems, may help. If it does,
kindly report back to this NG how you solved the
problem.

Greetings --

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the old one
(same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll most likely need to perform a
repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least (and don't
forget to reinstall any service packs and subsequent hot fixes):

I just built a new computer - Athlon2.6 Ghz. When I tried
to swap my current, and not old, hard drive into my new
machine it won't run. I reinstall back into my old
computer, Duron 1 Ghz, and the operating system works
fine. A reinstall into the new machine still causes
problems and I cannot even go into safe-mode without a
crash. Any ideas to assist this migration without
reformatting?

Thank you,

David
