can't be pinged but can access network

HI,

My small workgroup has a winxp sp2 machine which can access internet
and email fine. But when i
try to ping it, I got request time out error and lost =100%. I shutdown
the firewall from service under administrator tools and
and re-install tcp/ip component under safemode. But still i have no
luck. I also try to rejoin the workgroup and change network ID a couple
of time.

The only thing thats not right is i have to use
//ip_address/shared_folder_name ­ to access
shared folder within workgroup. I can't browse through the workgroup
coz i get following error message:

------------------
MyGroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator this server to find out if
you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently avaliable.
 
Hi dav,

Have you got any anti-virus software running in the background? E.g.
Norton Internet Security blocks ping packets and you should shut them
down too...
