Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to fix a users email. Their email address is
(e-mail address removed)

It SHOULD be (e-mail address removed)

The problem is, when I try to change or add the following SMTP address to
this user: (e-mail address removed) I get the following error:

"This e-mail address already exists in this organization. ID no: c10312e7
Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension"

Thanks,

Create a new mail message and type in the e-mail address of
(e-mail address removed) in the address bar. Hit Ctrl-K to resolve
it. This should tell you what account that address is currently assigned
to. Every e-mail address has to be unique. Find the account that already
has it and you should be able to fix this.

Hi there,

I tried as you suggested. It came up with a dialog box that said it
resolved to that SMTP address ([email protected])...nothing
else. :(

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

David

I would do a search for the existing address and figure out what object is
already using it. With ldp, your search filter would be:

(proxyAddresses=smtp:[email protected])

One you find it, hopefully it will be obvious who is squatting on that
address and what you should do to resolve it. Perhaps someone created a
contact or a different user with the same name?

Duplicate (and invalid) proxyAddresses are bad (they cause NDRs) and should
be avoided. It is very easy to create a huge mess with errant scripts that
do not validate for duplicates and write to proxyAddresses directly.

Hi Neil,

I was just about to reply to Joe's message and ask him how to do that...so
thanks!

I'll go check it out immediately!

If it doesn't resolve to a current mailbox, then the mail-enabled object may
be hidden. Do an export using csvde and filter based on the mail and
proxyaddresses fields. And really, you only need the proxyaddresses field,
because the proxyaddresses will include all addresses assigned to the user,
not just additional e-mail addresses. Adding the samaccountname field to
the filter makes it easier to figure out which account has the address. An
example would be:

csvde -f c:\export.csv -l "samaccountname,proxyaddresses"

Hi there,

Please forgive me for asking what is probably an obvious question, but, I
did find the instance of the SMTP address in the text file, but I need
guidance on what the information in the dump file means, and how to procede
with where to go from here?

It SEEMS like the SMTP address "belongs" the the user I WANT it to belong
to, but it doesn't show up under the E-Mail Address" tab in the User
Properties.

Thanks,

David

Ahhh...I found it!

Someone before me had created an "old users" user and had put a bunch of
former employees email addresses in it, and then forwarded it to HR. It was
listed in there.

Thanks very much!

David

I am having a similar error but doing something different.

A user is leaving the company and there is an address (e-mail address removed) that goes to her address, I need to re-direct (e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed)main.com[/email].

If I try to add (e-mail address removed) to the list of email addresses for (e-mail address removed) I do get the same error c10312e7.

I need your help.
