I originally reported the following problem with Windows Vista beta 2 build
5384 in June 2006: The Add button is disabled in the Modems tab of Phone and
Modem Options in the Control Panel. There is no internal modem on my test
system; I usually add an external modem and "Cable between two computers".
I have the same problem with build 5472 on the original test system. I
installed build 5472 on a new test system, and it has the same problem. The
only difference is that the built-in modem on the new test system was
configured automatically, but even so the Remove button is disabled. (On
Windows XP, Remove is normally enabled even for a built-in modem.) The
built-in modem is on COM3. COM1 is "working properly" (per the device
manager).
I need to be evaluate an application that uses dial-up networking on Windows
Vista. Does anyone know why the Add and Remove buttons would be disabled?
