I'm trying to add a zone to my 'secure zones' (don't know the exact
translation from swedish to english). The zone lookes like this

---- 8< ---
*://*.xx.se
-----------
xx represents my domainname and is two characters long. I'm getting a
message that says that the pattern isn't allowed. But in the examples given
in the message this should be alowed:
---- 8< ----
*://*.microsoft.com

if I try this:

xxx representing three characters I'm able to add it. Seems like it has
something to do with the fact that my domain name is two characters long?

Am I right?

As a test I just tried to add: "http://ja.se". There was no problem. Not
sure what you are attempting with the, "*://*" construct, though; that may
be the problem.
