Susan

I have the newer version of Tweak UI and for some reason I no longer have
the plain text document when I right click and go to the 'New' area. It
still has the Folder, Shortcut, Briefcase, Bitmap, Microsoft Word Document
and Zip file, but there was always the plain text document also. I would
like to add it back in but everytime I either try to drop and drag the
Notepad program into the template area of Tweak UI or if I try to find
Notepad to create a template it always says "This document cannot be used as
a document template."
I don't even know how I got rid of it, much less on how to get it back.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi Susan,

Download and apply the .txt file association fix from here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

The "Text Document" entry will be added to the "New" menu.

Hi Ramesh,
Thanks so much for the info, I am confused on how to install it though,
do I just follow these instructions?
NOTE: If your EXE file associations are corrupted, it can be difficult to
open REGEDIT, or to even import REG files. To work around this, press
CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down
the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt
window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.
Thanks to Nigel Andrews for this tip.

I'm just really nervous about messing around with the Registry. Every place
I've gone to on the web dealing with regedit or the Registry carries that
big "Do not mess around with this unless you understand what you're doing!"

Thanks so much again.
Susan

Susan,

That info applies for .exe files. Follow these steps:

The files listed here are all ZIP files, which contain a REG (Registry) file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad. Each of the REG files contains the default settings for the file extension indicated. For the ZIP file fix, the download is a REG file, since ZIP's aren't working anyway!

This is the file you want:
