Hello,

A copy of Vist I have installed on another machine has locked my computer
down and won't allow me to activate.

I thought we could test, register and activate multiple copies. The machine
in question suffered some hardware issues that have required several
installation attempts and finally a success. Have my numerous activations
caused me to lose the ability to activate at all?

Regards.

1) Call them and get this straightened out. That'd be my first move. There
is an automated phone system in the activation wizard or just call
1-800-MICROSOFT and have them get you in the activation cue or just call
Vista support and have them do it: They can straighten out activation
problems and any hardware change component.

Vista Support:

Details on accessing this phone support:

Phone Number: 866-425-0593
Hours of Availability:
Monday – Friday: 5AM-9PM Pacific Time
Saturday – Sunday: 6AM-3PM Pacific Time
English only (US & Canada)

2) Also you can obtain a phone number with a command:

You can obtain the telephone number by running slui.exe 4 at the command
prompt. You can also obtain the telephone number by clicking Show me other
ways to activate in the Product Activation wizard. Optionally, you can find
the phone number for your location in the
%systemroot%\system32\slui\phone.inf file.

Activation fails when you try to activate Windows Vista or Windows Longhorn

Eddie--

You also can buy time (I'm not sure if this will work on your box given the
history, and I'd call them and that should do it, but this command can reup
the activation period in Vista:

In an elevated command prompt type: slmgr -rearm (Right click the command
prompt shortcut in the start menu and run as admin.

Hi Eddie,

What version? The beta and RC downloads can be installed and activated on up
to ten systems. Not so for the RTM distribution.
