Hi,
I've been accessing machines at work remotely for over two years. A
few weeks ago I found that I couldn't access them from my home machine.
Here are the circumstances:
1. I can still connect to work using VPN
2. Once the VPN connection completes successfully I open a remote
desktop session and type in my machine name.
3. The little "tab" with my machine name comes down and it sort of
"churns" for a while. Nothing happens for about 2 or 3 minutes.
4. Finally a message box comes up telling me that it couldn't
connect, possibly due to a network error.
At work we tried the following:
1. Someone VPNed in from a machine at work. They were able to
succesfully remote to my machne from that machine
2. We were able to remote to my machine from at least two of my
colleague's machines.
The techs at work figure this is due to something installed recently
on my home machine. I'm not sure what this might be. I disabled the
firewall just to see what would happen and it didn't work. I turned the
firewall back on and set up desktop remoting as an exception. That
didn't work either.
I'm not sure what to try next. Any help would be appreciated.
