I tried to use my original windows xp pro cd-rom to
repair windows installation, however my computer could
not read the cd and would not boot from it. I used a
borrowed windows xp pro to repair my windows
installation. When the installation was finished it would
not let me sign in and said i needed to activate windows.
I could not do this because it was not my cd. I was
wondering if there is any thing I could do tp fix this or
get around the problem.

Call the proper MS contact number and explain the problem. Give them the License Key of the defective CD and request a replacement. They will be happy to do it if your defective copy is legit. The new CD will have a different Key and you'll have to re-install and reactivate it within 3 days but that is standard operating procedure. Registration is optional but highly advisable.
