Please help....When I turn on my computer, I have a DELL Windows XP
Professional, it scans but it doesn't overturn or boots to the windows menu
instead it goes into a black screen with the following message as if I had a
floppy dist in the drive: "Strike F1 to boot F2 to go to setup utility"
This happens to me every other month. The only way around it is to unplug
all the cable cords from the back and attempt or hope that works or I put in
my Windows XP cd and ask to recovery my system. I don't know what is going
on, I do know that the only time I have ever seen such message it is when I
have a floppy disk in the drive. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

Looks like you may have some corrupt system files, or (I hope not)
picked up a virus. Have you tried a System Restore prior to when the
problem started? Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>
System Restore. You can go back up to 90 days using Safe Mode.
See below how to access Safe Mode.
If that doesn't work. Try this:

Boot in Safe Mode to run a System File Check.
Start>Run>type SFC /SCANNOW and press Enter (space between C and /)
have your WindowsXP CD handy for it may ask for it.

If none of these procedures work you may have to do a Repair Install of XP.

Thank you so much, I don't think it is a virus since I have had this problem
for nearly four years, it only happens occasionally. Thank you so much for
your information, I will follow your advice and will let you know how the
outcome....also I will do a system restore which is usually what I end up
doing.

Hi,

It likely means your CMOS battery is dead. To replace it involves shutting
down the system and opening the drive tower. On the motherboard you will
find a flat battery, roughly the size of a US nickel, that needs replacing.
The battery is usually easy to remove and can be replaced at many common
electronics store that sell watch batteries and such.

"CMOS battery dead"? She's had this problem for nearly 4 years.
She must have noticed her date and time being incorrect by now?

She said it's been happening for 4 years, so obviously she knew they were
wrong. Just now she wants to fix it.
