My friend can't access one particular website from their
home but can take their computer to a friends house who
uses the same Server and can access it.

Anyone know what the problem may be?

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Frank,

I have a HOSTS which opens in Notepad as:

127.0.0.1 AdSubtract # Added by AdSubtract for auto-dial.

Does that mean that it is best that I re-name it as suggested by you or
is there another explanation? as I cannot read anything sinister in the
above text.

Thanks,
Emrys Davies.

If you intentionally added AdSubtract, leave it. If you didn't delete the
line.

I thought I had got rid of that file quite a while ago. It has
certainly gone now, with all its bits and pieces, I think.

Is the HOSTS file necessary or can it be deleted without detriment to
the PC?

Thanks,
Emrys Davies.

It used to be that some networks needed it. I don't know of anything that
still needs it. The reason I suggest renaming it is so that it can be named
back if there's a problem.
