When I try to access my main desktop from any workgroup
computer on my network I am immediately being asked for a
password. "Resource: \\(computer name)\IPC$, and asking
for a password. Without this password I can not see any
of the shared folders. I need access to those files from
the network. Please Help.

Three things you need to do:

1. Logon to 98/ME system instead of bypassing the logon screen
2. Enable "forceguest" in XP system. Open Registry Editor and set the
ForceGuest registry value is set to 1:
This is the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3. Thirdly enable guest account in XP system.

Restart. All network connections will use guest privileges now.
