I just upgraded my PC via a clean install of XP Pro (even
reformatted hard drive). My problem is that I can't
access any https web sites now. This is a home computer
on a switched 100 mbs network and connecting to the
Internet via ICS to the PC attached to a satellite
modem. I just completed going through MS KB Article
813444. The only thing that didn't check out on this
list was registering cryptdig.dll - got an error that the
LoadLibrary failed - the specified module could not be
found. Where can I find this file?

Any other clues to figure this out?

Thanks in advance.

cryptdig.dll might be a typo on your part. it is cryptdlg.dll. Is the
Cryptographic Service running on automatic?
Here are some more things to try
Windows XP: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts
Open it with a text editor and you'll probably find lines with the names of
the sites that you can't access. Delete those lines, save the file, and try
again. If those are the only lines in the file, delete the file. Be sure to
save it with a file name of just Hosts, with no file type. If your editor
saves it as Hosts.txt, rename it to just Hosts.

The Hosts file can be created by "web accelerator" programs that store
name-to-IP address translations. This might speed up access by a tiny
amount, but it causes problems when a site's IP address changes.
go to START -> RUN -> type

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wintrust.dll

Also make sure your time is correct on your computer.

Are you only having trouble on the client machine? It might be the proxy
settings in Internet Options if it is your problem. I'm assuming you tried
everything in the KB article.
