Have a harddisk with 3 partitions, all with NTFS, Win2000
installed on C-drive. Due to several people using my PC,
I have restricted access to disk D and E. So far so good.
Then I reformat C-drive, put XP on it, and after that I
cannot access D and E, it says "Access denied".
Obviously this is cause I earlier made restrictions to
the drives when running Win2000.

How can I get access to D and E from XP ??

Go to start/help and support. Type in search - Take Ownership!

Well, that would work on files or folders I think, but I
can't even open properties on the D and E disk. I get
access denied once I try open, or when try go to the
disks properties.

Hi,

Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, undo "simple file sharing".

Then right-click the drive, choose sharing and security (not properties). On
the security tab, click on advanced, go to the owner tab to take ownership.

For an XP Home system, you will need to reboot to Safe mode to see the
security tab.

Hi (again),

You may also find that you need to work with cacls from the command prompt.
Start/run cmd, run cacls /? to get the parameters.
