With Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 6.0 I can access
only secured sites. Any NON-secure (regular) internet site
says "The page cannot be displayed" (just like it would if
the internet connection was down, but it's not). This
just started last week. I'm baffled.

Are you using a software firewall or internet protection package? If so it may be
misconfigured. Secure websites need access to tcp port 443 while regular web sites
use tcp port 80. Check your firewall configuration and the logs for denied traffic.
If you are unsure of what to do try uninstalling and then reinstalling your software
firewall being sure to NOT use existing configuration if prompted during reinstall or
delete any rule that may be blocking general access to http/80. --- Steve
