Embarrassed One

Hello,

I am fairly new at playing around with XP and I went and
created new user accounts. The "account 1" I set up as
administrator and "account 2" was for my son. Now, I
can't access any of my files on the pc. My "my pictures"
folder is empty and there were a whole bunch of pictures
in there. How do I log on as "THEE" admin now? I can't
figure it out. When I reboot it only gives me the option
to log in as "account 1" and not as Administrator.

Help!!

I am running WinXp Pro.

Thanks,

K

The account called "Administrator" is meant to be a hidden account. If
there is no other account on the system, it will appear but as soon as you
create a new account, it will become hidden. Hence it's best that you
create two new accounts, one that is a Limited account for every day use and
one to handle system issues, installations, etc. which cannot be called
administrator but can be an administrator account; see user accounts in
Control Panel.

In any event, treat this one as a lost password and access the hidden admin
account as follows:

If you have XP Pro on your computer, at the log in screen type
ctrl-alt-delete
twice. In the user account type administrator, leave the password blank and
press enter. You likely didn't create a password for this hidden account
during setup and if the computer was purchased with XP pre-installed it
doesn't likely have one either,

If you have Home, boot into Safe Mode (F8 after the post test and before
Windows starts. Once Windows starts loading, you've missed it and will have
to try again). You'll have an option to log on as Administrator. Again,
the same procedure, you'll be asked to log in to get into safe mode, type
administrator, leave the password blank and press enter.

This will get you in. Then go to Control Panel, user accounts, select the
specific user and select change password. Once you've changed the password
it would be advisable to create a Password Reset Disk by clicking "Prevent a
Forgotten Password" link in the left pane.

Help,

I saw the post with MS windows XP, with the subject:
Can't access my files after creating user account posted
by (e-mail address removed). I have met with the same
problem. I couldn't access the previous files after I
created the new logon name, I believe they are there in
the harddrive, but labled the old name, I tried to
recover it by creating the same screen name, still it
doesn't work. I tried to follow your instruction, but I
cannot find the page to type Administrator. My acreen
appears soon after I press F8 is: Windows Advanced
Options Menue, it has the options as safe mode, safe mode
with networking start windows normally etc. if I press F8
again, another screen appears which says: Please select
Operation System to start MS XP Home Edition, there is
only one choice on this page. I don't know what to do.
Please Help!!!
