I have Windows XP Professional, and n the welcome screen when I try to log
on as Guest, it will look like it's about to go into it, the screen will
turn black, and then it will come back to the welcome screen and say:

" Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check
that you are connected to the network..."

I have no problems when trying to log onto any other accounts though. Also
once I have already clicked Guest once and the above message comes up, if I
try it again it will start to say "loading your personal settings..." and
then it will just go back to the welcome screen, where I can click on a user
again. I tried clicking it again a few times and restarted the computer, but
nothing worked.

I don't think it's a virus because it started happening the day I got XP and
I hadn't even had time to download anything yet. Does anyone know why this
is happening or what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

Alana,

I don't have a straight answer, so I'll poke around in the dark
a little, hoping for a lucky find.

The guest account normally does not have its own stored profile.
Instead it gets a fresh copy of the default profile every time.
The same happens, once, when you create a new account. You could
try to create a new account to check whether that still works.
You can delete it again after the test.

Check also whether the computer is set up for workgroup
networking, not for connection to a domain.

What happens when you check the properties of the Guest account?
Is it enabled at all?
