Running windows xp pro and justr tried to accress the firewall but it tells
me that the windows firewall/iis service needs to be started before I can
open the firewall. Went to services and attempted to start this service but
I am not allowed to. I am an administrator. Any ideas as to what I might
do? Thanks

You cannot start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920074

Windows Firewall options are grayed out
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/resetfwpol.htm

= Run command: (Credit to the MVP Ramesh)

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132
%windir%\inf\netrass.inf

Restart Windows, and then run this command (from Command Prompt):
NETSH FIREWALL RESET
Reboot your computer and See if you can have access to turn ON the
firewall and stay next time.

= Open a Run command and type:
Services.msc click [OK]
On the services control panel make sure these services are Automatically
started.

Security Accounts Manager
Security centre
Server
Close the Services control panel and Reboot your machine.
