I'm beginning to take your point about my outdated view of DOS & my old
favourite the Win 98 boot disk; you're right, getting rid of it is the
start of my modernization! You've given me a good few things to think about
on this subject, but until i start to use it on a regular basis it's still
going to remain a mystery. (Full screen, white text on a blue background?
Sounds familiar; either a nostalgia trip (Commodore 64?) or need your own
sanity check!)

I've found the Disk Management utility but have only been using it for
centralized access to the low level cleanup\analysis tools; i was always
leery of Fdisk\Format- too powerful but inflexible, so have always tried to
rely on non-Microsoft products for these, where possible.

The thing with Trojan Remover (a small prog for looking to see if you've a
trojan running in memory) is only an irritation & i suspect has to do not
understanding- yet -enough about how XP works, but i'm getting there, once
i've read and used all the reference stuff you've given me & i've come up
with myself. And that's where i'm trying to get to. A good understanding
of XP &-in this instance -it's relationship with DOS; overcoming my inbuilt
resistance to the change of attitude needed to understand this relationship
has been the real point of all this. I did think, for a short time, that i
was right & you were all mad, but it wasn't working for me, so i'm adjusting
to reality. Well, what are you going to do? Reality's a brick wall.

Which just leaves me with an unnecessary *.dll file left over from the
uninstallation of Trojan Remover. It just sits there, defying all my
attempts to nuke the thing, but i'll get the little bastard in the end.

R.C. thanks for your help & advice, i'm a wiser man

yours
