Can't access A drive

I have always used my A drive to back up text documents
written in WordPerfect.

Now suddenly, when I go to Save As a document to A, I get
the message "A disk is not formatted." This occurs, even
though I know the disk is formatted and contains files.
Same thing if I go to open a known file from an A disk.

If I try to format the disk, I am told Windows cannot
format the disk.

I've tried this on numerous disks, so I know it's not
just a particular disk that's corrupted.

My Operating System is Windows XP home.

Help will be appreciated.

Strange, this problem. I'm not very technical. We had the
same thing happen on XP Home with a floppy my wife insists
on using (for far too long I keep telling her!) to work on
Word files. It tried it successfully on our other (W98SE)
machine, so I used that to transfer the files onto a new
floppy, which now works on the XP Home machine.
A few days later I happened to mention this little problem
whilst in a small computer shop, to be told by the owner
that he thinks it is an XP issue.
Hope that helps - do you know someone running a different
version of Windows?
