My network is set up using a cable modem connected to a
linksys router to 2 computers running winxp home ed. I
have spent the better part of my free time over the past
2 weeks trying to network the two computers. I have
checked my dhcp settings with my ISP, and they are fine,
Facts: I can connect to the internet using both
computers. I am logged in as the admin on both
computers. I have run the network config wizard multiple
times. All folders and drives are set up to share.
Internet connection firewall (icf) has been disabled. I
have opened a dos prompt and typed netview on each
computer and seen that both are logged on, this tells me
that they see eachother. They are both in the same
workgroup (MSHOME) but have two different names, (KIT and
HAL.)

When I try to view the workgroup computer from win xp, I
get an error message, (\\kit is not accessible. you
might not have permission to use this network resource.
contact the administrator of this server to see if you
have access permissions. the network path was not found.)

Does anybody have an answer to this problem?

Have you tried connecting to the share using the ip
address in place of the netbios name? If not, try this. I
suspect it may be that you require netbios over tcpip
enabled to access via the \\name method.

wow rick you have the same problem as i have
can,t seem to find anyone that knows the answer

I have the same problem. I have an ME destop and XP he.
The ME machine can see the XP fine and access the files
on the XP, but when I try to view the workgroup computer
from win xp, I get an error message, \\family is not
accessible. you might not have permission to use this
network resource. contact the administrator of this
server to see if you have access permissions. the network
path was not found.)

I have spent the better part of two weeks trying to get
this fixed. I am to the point of spending money to find
an answer to this. This should be easier.

Another who has the same problem. How would I go about
using the ip address instead of the netbios name? Does
this work?

My problem is about the same. I can't see the other computer on my
network and the host computer isn't there either. I can ping the
client from the host but It doesn't work vica versa. And I can't ping
netview either way. My internet connection works fine on both on both
ends. Frankly I'm stumped. I'm ready to call Microsoft support. This
is the closest I've come to even finding anyone with the same problem.
