Canot use CD/RW to record

Have Toshiba DVD-RomSD-R2512 driver installed on my pc. I can use CD-R to
record but not rewritable. Says Rewritable on door. I have uninstalled
Roxio software in case that is the problem and tried again with same results.
Also checked in properties forupdates and found none. Any other place to
check oroher step to take? Thanks in advance for any help!
 
A CD-R disc is not rewritable, only recordable. You need
a CD-RW disc in order to rewrite.

You would need to install a third-party CD recording program,
such as Nero. Windows XP's built-in CD recording program
only works with a CD-R or CD-RW drive, not a DVD-R or
DVD-RW drive.

I have uninstalled Roxio so I will buy Nero and give it a try. Thanks for
your help! If it does not work I may be back!

MY PRESARIO 700 DVD-ROM door is written Recordable ,Rewritable, but always
shows 'no burner detected" whenever i want to write.I have used several
burning softwares like nero yet can't detect it.What do i do pls
