Recently bought CanoScan 8400F to use with my Windows XP Professional. The
scanner works great with the software it came with but when my kids try to
scan into Microsoft Paint, the scan and camera option is greyed out. I've
looked at the Microsoft site and came up with a description of the problem
but I'm not exactly sure how to correct the problem. In my ignorance I must
confess I don't completely understand.
I went to the Canon site and found the following downloads:
Driver 10.2.2.0 (I currently have 10.2.1.0)
Driver uninstall utility 2.0.10.0
Canon Scan Toolbox 4.9.3.1 (I currently have 4.9.3.1)
I'm not sure if these will correct the problem (Not entirely sure it really
is much of a problem since I prefer other software over Paint. It's just
the kids who like Paint ).
Also, not sure if I will lose some functions in the
software programs that came with the scanner and/or ones I already have on
the computer. At the moment Paint appears to be the only program affected
and I'm afraid of messing up several other programs in an effort to fix it.
However, if these downloads and drivers are updates that I will in all
likelihood need or want for programs I may install in the future in addition
to correcting the problem with Paint, I would be willing to give it a go.
Anyone out there have some experience with this issue or this scanner? Any
constructive advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I cross posted this to 24hoursupport.helpdesk. The two respondents
suggested I scan and save using the software provided and the open the jpgs
with Paint. This is possible the best option but am interested in what
others using this scanner have to say.
