It seems like every time I open the lid to change ink tanks I have to
do a new head alignment. When I do the nozzle test it is all messed
up. After I do a head alignment it seems to do a good nozzle test. It
is like it forgets what head alignment settings I had once the lid is
opened. Does this make any sense?

Thanks

If you remove cart, printer can't know if you replaced it or just looked for
remaining ink.
MY old Lexmark did this always if i removed any cart. But, Lexmark uses
carts which are together with print head, so this makes sense. Canon on the
other hand has fixed head, so this shouldn't be necesarry. But, to be honest,
i never checked at my i550 yet. I do occasionally remove carts to see
remaining of ink, but never tested. Also never had any bad print rsults
(yet). If i print nozzle check, all is ok, but i think it's always OK,
since this test only checks if all nozzles are spitting ink. Are you sure
it's not a nozzle clog? Try to do a head cleaning once instead alignment and
see if there's any improvement.
