Hi all
Iv just bought the Canon i560 to replace my Canon 6100 which has packed
in after 6 years and iv a load of jet tec compatabils cartridges
sereis 3 left. I know i can use the black ones in my new i560 but
can i use the old colour ones ones as they seem identical and all so
fit the i560 Allthough I havent dared print with them in.. The i560 uses
series 6 cartridges but all seem the same so
would i do any damage using them. Is the ink different or somthing.
Thanks

Thanks for giving permission!

Now...can you explain the difference between the BCI-3 series and the BCI-6
series tanks? And specifically the difference in ink?

My comments referred to JetTec cartridges compatible with the BCI-3 and 6.
Ink capacity was increased for the BCI-6 to 11ml and Photo Cyan and Magenta
inks.
At some point when the changes took place Canon enabled the use of BCI-6
cartridges for the 6100 etc series with a software driver upgrade. Ain't no
ink differences that I'm aware of: but again images are tested to ensure
that JetTec paper reacts correctly to JetTec inks :-)

AFAIK, they would be different ink formulations, for different head
technology.

???

The fixed-head technology is the same in all current Canon printers. The
only difference is droplet size and number of droplets per second.

Since the number of droplets is mostly a function of the number of
nozzles, and several models now use 2 picoliter droplets, the
differences are at best, minor.

In fact, the i560 uses the BCI-3e black and BCI-6 colour cartridges,
mixing the two lines.

Then why are there two different tank numbers (3 an 6), with the same
physical tank? (not saying I ws right though).

I think it's because the 6 series uses photo colours as well for six
colour printing, and it's easier for consumers to buy cartridges that
all have the same "line numbers".

The BCI-6 is completely dye-based for smoother blending of colour
layers. The BCI-3e black is pigment based for better text printing.
You'll note that the i860 uses five cartridges, with CMY and black all
dye-based, plus a pigment black for text. That kind of breaks the rules
for using the same line numbers though.

I dunno...
