I have a maxtor 120 gig drive that is partitioned exactly in half, set as
slave. Was formatted to ntfs. After installing canon software for a scanner
the drive now shows not formatted in disk managment. Was working fine before
the scanner install. Have it in another machine now with same symptoms.
How can I restore this drive with out doing a format and recovery? Had
almost everything backed up. I actually use the drive to transport data
from work and home. Its in a removable drive bay.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just remembered one other thing I did before installing the scanner. I had
done a update - "Recommended Update for Windows XP SP1 (KB822603)" and the
directX 9.0b update.

I might also note that in disk mangment the drive shows both partitions
healthy but not formatted and still using thier assigned letters Q: & R:

Do I dare run CHKDISK on these partitions?
