Canon S820: *Is* There a "Waste Ink Tank"? Where?

I've already used an ammonia based
cleaning solution for the printhead and am now working on cleaning the rest
of this machine for use as a backup. Boy, were things filthy; I think as a
result of my overfilling the cartridges and/or putting them into the machine
while they may have still been "dripping" after a refill. Having learned my
lesson, I won't make that mistake again!

I'm cleaning anything I can see had ink on it, mostly the foam. Is there an
actual *tank* in this printer that would siphon used or "deep cleaned" ink?
If so, I'd like to locate it and deal with it.

Much thanks for any help!

It's in the bottom of the case, I think. I had to clean my BJC
8200 and that's where it was. It had 3 layers of felt that soak up
the ink. I washed and dried them out. You gotta do a real
disassembly to get to them.

It would be nice if my fingers didn't hit the send key so fast....LOL..

It probably is a large felt like sponge about 1/2 inch thick & covers about
1/4 to 3/4 of the base of the printer...

It can be anywhere from a small patch to completely saturated.....You can
run it under warm water compressing & releasing many times till the water
escapes somewhat less colored ....then lay it on a cookie sheet in an off
oven, turning occasionally till dry...then reinstalling......that's only one
way of many.....

Be very careful removing the housing from the base.....a lot of printers use
the "pressure plastic hook" to keep things together.

Maybe a true repairman can help you better!

Good Luck.....Joe

It REALLY doesn't do any good to clean the waste ink area of the printer
without resetting the electronics of the printer so it doesn't shut down
and fail because of a "full waste ink area". I dont know what the
printers use as a count to cause the shutdown, but in any that I've used
it ISNT caused by any sensor that actually can tell if the area is full
of ink, so removing the ink doesn't get the printer up and running
again.

You might be able to get a proceedure from the service department for
doing this, then again you might not.

On some of the older Canon printers this was accomplished by holding
down certain buttons on the printer while switching it on, then
resopnding to flashing light codes with button presses.

Good luck.
